As moms, we always want to make holidays special for our little ones, but let’s face it, sometimes the budget can be as tight as a bunny’s hug. I’m here to share some egg-cellent ideas on how to make this Easter as special as can be without breaking the bank.

EASTER FAMILY TRADITION IDEAS

Years down the road, your kids won’t remember what filled their Easter basket – they are going to remember how your family spent their time on this day! And there are PLENTY of ways to make Easter a special family day at home.

  • Plant Jelly Beans – Plant jelly beans in a small patch of dirt with your kids the night before Easter and replace the jelly beans with peeps on a stick before they wake up. Your kids will think they grew a peep garden!
  • Have a Hip-Hop Dance Party – No, not like the music… like the bunny!!
  • New Traditions Crafts—We love these meaningful activities for remembering the true meaning of Easter. Use Code “JORDAN” for 20% off your order.
  • Read Easter Books – There are lots of Easter books for kids of all ages. Try the Berenstain BearsPete the Cat or Clifford’s Happy Easter!
  • Have an Egg Toss – Boil the eggs first for less mess!
  • Easter Egg Hunt: Fill plastic eggs with small toys or silly challenges like “hop on one foot to the next egg” for a fun twist on the classic hunt!
  • Dye Easter Eggs – This good ole’ fashioned Easter tradition of dying Easter eggs never goes out of style!
  • Make a Special Easter Breakfast – Make irresistible homemade pancakes and dye them colors for a special Easter surprise!
  • Host a “Jesus Dinner” – Our kids LOVE this one! We eat with our hands, charcuterie board style, and talk about the resurrection and real meaning of Easter.
  • Roast Peep S’mores – Mmhmm. Just like it sounds! You can even make s’mores in the microwave.

EASTER DECOR

Truth be told, I haven’t always done a lot of decorating for Easter. It’s something I’ve been more intentional about this year, wanting to keep the holiday Christ-centered in our home. I used Etsy for some Easter decor pieces – and I suggest you sign up for Rakuten before you do the same! You get a $30 sign-up bonus today and then cash back for every purchase after that!

  1. Thanks for pooling all these great ideas into one place. My goal this year is to be more intentional with how we celebrate Easter. I want my girls to know it’s so much more than an egg hunt and a pretty dress.

  2. I LOVE this comprehensive list!! We should really be celebrating Christ’s return as much as we celebrate his birth! Thank you!

I was really excited to see the “sew paper garland,” but it seems the link is broken/missing. Any chance it’s able to be updated?

    Thank you!

  3. I have a few little ones but I’m also on a budget so I only get a few small gifts for their baskets and some candy. I make play dough at home with only a couple ingredients, washable outside chalk and fubbles (spill proof bubbles).
